Hope Ridge was started in 1957 by Rev. Richard Bailey, and met at Melridge
Elementary School. In 1959 that small congregation set out to build a United
Evangelical Church on land at the intersection of Johnnycake Ridge and Button Road,
our present location. In 1960, Rev. Bob Lautenschlager became the pastor, serving
until 1981. During that time a new classroom addition and later, a fellowship hall and
offices were added. In 1968 Hope Ridge became a United Methodist Congregation.
Rev. Bob’s vision for Hope Ridge was to serve the community by attracting members
who shared his passion for caring for people in need. During that period members of
Hope Ridge were instrumental in the establishment and support of many agencies and
facilities throughout the county including the Hope Ridge Preschool, Hospice of the
Western Reserve, Hope Chest, Project Hope for the Homeless, The Neighboring
Project, Crossroads, and many others.
In 2006, a new, modern Worship and
Family Life Center was constructed
to provide facilities for expanded
programs for our congregation and
the community, following the spirit of
our half century heritage.
